Obvious Archives

The Obvious Skateboarding videos were created to showcase the talents of the local skateboarders of Moscow, Idaho. Between the years 2001 and 2004, Obvious produced three full-length skate videos, Tomorrow (2002), Faded (2003), and You Are Here (2004). Around the same time Faded was produced, I used much of the same footage to make an independent project: Flat Spots. The videos were shown at a local theater bringing hundreds of people to each showing. More than 600 copies of the videos have been created and distributed, with You Are Here being our most successful title to date. The videos are all available for streaming.

You Are Here

You Are Here is our most recent and popular video. Filmed in the summer of 2004 and contains footage from all over the Northwest. The video was a joint project between Obvious Skateboarding and Skiltywibble films. You Are Here features 12 skateboarders: Danny Ross, Destry Teeter, Jaired Hudson, Arthur Scully, Jim George, Buggy LaMoreaux, Henry Knecht, Mike Wilson, Chris Bareither, Xeno Miller, Matt Shoebottom, and Nolan Helmstetter.

Faded

Over 50 hours of footage taken over the course of a year and a half resulted in Faded, Obvious' first hit title. Faded was Obvious' first DVD release and first theatrical premiere, with two showings at the Nuart Theater in Moscow, drawing a combined turnout of well over 300 people. More than 100 VHS copies and 150 DVD copies of Faded were distributed. Faded features the talents of Destry Teeter, Henry Knecht, Arthur Scully, Jim George, Jaired Hudson, and Danny Ross.

Flat Spots

Flat Spots is an independent project I created for Moscow High School's Arts Fest in 2002. Flat Spots is short and sweet. Much of the footage used in Flats Spots is footage that was used later in Faded. The title and graphic art are intended as an analogy for place where skateboarders inhabit: the flat spots of the world. Flat Spots is an experiment in many ways. My audience is not intended to be skateboarders, but the average viewer. I attempted to create a unique editing style to fit the music and talents of each skater. I also included a short narrative detailing what skateboarding means to me. Very few copies of Flat Spots were produced, but it is available for viewing in its entirety on this site.

Tomorrow

Over three years in the making (we had to get good enough to be worth filming), Tomorrow is Obvious Skateboarding's first full-length video. Produced only three years prior to You Are Here, it is amazing ot see how far we our skateboarding and filming/editing progressed in such a short time. Tomorrow will always hold a special place in our hearts as our first skateboarding video. Tomorrow features Jaired Hudson, Henry Knecht, Arthur Scully, Jim George, Jack Knecht, Jessie Lewis, Danny Riel, Destry Teeter, Buggy LaMoreaux, and Danny Ross.
